1 Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it?
There is a trend in the field of personal security solutions; even in those countries where the respect for personal property is a part of the national tradition people tend to pay for security instruments instead of or beside insurance solutions. Although in the developing countries, or in countries with a polarizing society the crime statistics of violent robberies and burglaries decrease, the number of pilferage cases increase. In our everyday life we are surrounded by security solutions, while on a trip or a vacation (when and where we carry more valuables along with us) we are unprotected. Seaside, beach environment is a special case, because it is not obvious where to put the valuables, and who will take care of them. When at the beach, everyone hates that moment when they want to go play in the water, but they are apprehensive leaving their valuables behind hidden in the shoe (or cooler, or towel, or wherever). This is a critical problem if no surveillance or lockers are available (in most cases no). There are several solutions available on the market for this key problem; this indicates the actuality of dealing with the problem. The proposed product fits in this trend, as it is a non-portable beach-safe solution for one person (family, friends) at a time.

2 What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to?  How was it addressed before?
The problematic character of security of personal valuables (keys of the apartment, car keys, money, credit cards, IDs, mobile phone, camera, etc.) at beach environment is not a novel finding. Numerous products are available on the market, surprisingly behind the products the principle solutions count only a few. You can simply hide your valuables, you can put it into a “box” and hide it, you can put it into a “box” and disguise it. You can put everything in a fixed “box” and lock it, or not into a fixed but an alarmed one. Or you can take everything with you wherever you go (restaurant, water, etc.). Of course the realization differs, there are simple, functional ones, and there are fancy or high-tech applications as well. The proposed product is the fixed-safe-type; the safe and the beach umbrella stand is integrated. The designers looked for an application, where the resources were already available (material or energy was already in use as a necessity), and that was the power of the development.

3 What is the potential for further research?
The direction for further development is to optimize the geometries according to the functions, in order to reach a cost effective production. The testing and further development might guide the designers towards different directions, as the first user opinions will be available. Now it seems that the user convenience is higher if the service is provided for them and the security equipment is previously installed. The proposed product is a comfort product, with no significant scientific relevance.

4 What is the proposed method of IPR-protection? (patent, license, trademark etc.)
The proposed method of IPR protection is design protection. It grants legal protection for the appearance of a product. By means of this protection, the right holder can create or strengthen his position on the market. It is exclusively the right holder who can exploit the protected design or the person who has been licensed by him to do so (design license contract).

5 What are the steps that need to be taken in order to secure the IPR-protection? What is the cost of IPR-protection?
To obtain a design protection  first a design application with the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office, or an international application under the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs should be filed. The cost of design protection is approx. 400-1000 EUR, depending on the territories, plus prosecution (500 EUR). The R&D result has never been published, so the chance is given that it will be granted. In the USA these types of novelties are sometimes acknowledged as patents (e.g. US PAT No. US7021866).

6 What is you overall assessment of the scientific maturity of the research result?
The novelty does not carry scientific relevance; on the market there already exist competitor products built on the same principle. The trends in the field of personal security devices are met by the product, the level of security is expected to be higher than the average. There is a good chance that the product is granted with a design protection, as it was never exposed.
