CETMA conducts applied research and experimental development enhancing and integrating disciplines and enabling pervasive. The project BLUE-ARCHEOSYS of technological research and development in innovative technologies and advanced systems in support of underwater archaeology.

Everything has been studied through a pilot application developed within the unit of CETMA design and engineering sectors of the project partners.


Please describe and discuss the testing results
The system BLU-ARCHEOSYS is characterized by:
• Systems and technologies of vision-based optical radar, side-scan sonar, multi-parameter probe and software data pre-processing;
• System type ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle);
• Integrated Information System LAND / SEA. The system is aimed at sharing the data generated by all the technology nodes of the project;
• Station morphological findings of divers. Integra colorimeter, laser line scanners, surface roughness and TAC – CT
To enable the dissemination of research results and create a virtual network able to connect all those who, for various reasons, revolving around the world of diving (underwater research groups, diving, amateur clubs, portals that deal with diving instructors, recreational divers and technicians), will implement a social network entirely dedicated to the world of diving.
The benefits that each user can derive from his active participation in such social networks ranging from the possibility of exchanging content types (text, photos, news, video) with other users, create and participate in discussion groups on various issues, propose experiences and activities to other users and see updated information on topics of interest, thereby contributing to increased attention to this sport is not yet widespread in Italy.

 SECTION 2: Current Stage of Development


To what extent does the development team have technical resources for supporting the production of a new product? (Researchers, human resources, hardware, etc.)

BLUE-ARCHEOSYS – is a project of technological research and development funded by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
The BLU-ARCHEOSYS is designed primarily to support and develop the technology for underwater archaeology. The research activities of CETMA part of this project develops several themes namely: The Virtualization of the seabed by means of gathering data from instruments mounted on ROVs, the definition of integrated information system, the conception, implementation and integration of a station characterization morphological and numerical simulation to support the process of recovery of wrecks.
The project saw the participation of many human resources, consisting of technicians, programmers, computer designers, engineers, developers, and leaders in the production of software, hardware and computer components.


What are the technical issues that need to be tackled for full deployment, if needed?

The project was designed for underwater archaeology, but the strong transversality and the same flexibility in terms of application areas can contact a number of markets potentially interested in its exploitation.
Currently the design team has all the tools necessary for further development, manufacture and marketing of the product.


What additional technical resources are needed for the production of this new product?

The project was carried out in collaboration CETMA from the Ministry of Education, University and Research, and with all the technology, resources and equipment necessary for its development, except for the financial resources necessary for its future commercialization


Overall assessment of the current stage of technical development.

The project was funded and the development phase is completed June 31, 2011. Treble-ARCHEOSYS involves the application of innovative tools and technologies of vision with high technological content, used in an integrated manner to enable more comprehensive measures and complete the findings as well as having several sectors (underwater research, in sit reverse engineering, seismology , etc.);
the traceability of the operating modes of action taking account of time and costs;
the application of a quantitative approach scientific fields still addressed in an empirical way;
optimization of the definition and methodology of intervention programs on underwater sites, for the protection, research, impact assessment and risk(for example, the archaeological risk);
The definition of a tool capable of collecting morphological data volume, surface, and precise imaging
The definition of a data-fusion methodology that integrates the data collected using a machine of morphological and / or from other tools to get by inference, new information about the state of the specimen under investigation
the transverse sector in terms of application of the system.

SECTION 3: Deployment

Since this is a virtual product (platform for the management of data relating to research underwater archaeology), the raw material is essentially the invention and the design human, as well as to technological systems to be used in marine.

The project saw the participation of many human resources, consisting of technicians, programmers, computer designers, engineers, developers, and leaders in the production of software, hardware and computer components to be applied to the marine sector.

What is you overall assessment of the technical feasibility of the research result?

This is a project funded, developed and tested with the aim” to create an innovative and technology for the management of data on the underwater archaeological research in the field at the same time can be used in other industries and applications such as field of hydrocarbons, telecommunications, military applications, civil protection, security etc..
This is therefore a flexible and cross in the field of digital technology and virtual thought for a diffusion in a global market.
