The R&D project “High-performance multispectral analysis for Earth’s surface monitoring – BLUEVISION” is a software system developed on parallel processing hardware that can process images obtained from earth observation satellites in real time.  The purpose of the system is analysis of the earth surface or emergency management.  The emphasis is on the parallel software implementation and less on the applications.  Two different implementations have been created, one on the supercomputer BlueGene and the other one on a cluster of standard computers called Beowulf cluster.  The implementations have been tested in off-line simulations with data from MODIS.
