PART B: VALORISATION PLAN

 

1 Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it?
The device is applicable for detecting disruptions of all cable types. It provides direct measurements and fast results visualization with no requirements for preliminary training of its operators. While the cable testing devices of the rivals is very complicated and extremely expensive equipment the proposed unit has compact, portable design and low production and maintenance costs. No harmful emissions for the human health have been detected during operation of the device. The tests have proven its long exploitation life and high energy effectiveness, using only a single alkaline battery for over 5000 h of continuous work. For the production of the device no complex and expensive equipment and installation is used. If a bifilar cable has total disruption of its both wires the suggested device is also operable and can identify the break location. The range of detection is divided into two distance categories for ensuring precise measurements: from 1 to 100 meters and from 1 to 1000 meters. The maximum range of the unit is 10 000 m. The device is fully operational in temperature range of -15C to +40C. It has low energy consumption with capacity of 5000 working hours with one charged battery. When switched on the device is ready for direct measurements without prior calibrations. This is the great difference between this device and the equipment, manufactured by most of the competitors. It has low production costs since using inexpensive electronic elements and simple equipment for its assembly.

 

 

2 What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to?  How was it addressed before?
Very common and frequent problem in the construction and daily life is the identification of multi-cable breaks. The proposed device is designed to facilitate technicians and service specialists in identifying the exact location of multi-cables breaks. It shows the localizations of the break in meters when attached to the measured cable. The device can be used for UTP, FTP, phone cables, electricity cables, underground network cables CABT, etc.

 

A certain number of cable disruptions indicating devices are offered at the market, most of them manufactured by leading electronics companies such as TECTRONIX, NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, CEBE, SIEMENS, PHILIPS, etc. In general, this kind of special service equipment is very complicated and expensive, it requires significant amounts of knowledge and experience, i. e. requires highly trained staff to operate. On the contrary – the proposed unit is very compact; it costs approximately 10% of the price of the rivaled units. It is very simple to operate, without any preliminary calibrations – just powered it is ready for work. And shows all the disruption distances and indications directly in meters on the display, therefore not requiring specialized staff. Moreover – it is reliable and capable of working of 5000 h just with a single alkaline battery. Light-weighted too, it can be easily stored and carried in a pocket.

 

3 What is the potential for further research?
The further research of the unit is connected to the improvement of the stability and preciseness of the device, shrinking the errors range down from 4-5%. In addition, the researcher could implement the reached result in developing a measuring range for large power supplying cables, which are more complicated to be tested for disruptions.

 

4 What is the proposed method of IPR-protection? (patent, license, trademark etc.)
The search within WIPO registration system has not revealed patents for analogical or similar devices. Therefore the IP protection could be filled for granting a patent or for industrial design or as utility model, based on a novelty, or the differences in the construction, compared to the rivals. The future company manufacturer of the device could apply for granting an international trade mark. The advantages of the proposed portable device for indication of cable disruptions before the similar equipment, manufactured by the rival companies, makes this step very important in order to protect the know-how and the interests of the researcher.

 

 

5 What are the steps that need to be taken in order to secure the IPR-protection? What is the cost of IPR-protection?
In order to apply for IP protection in the means of utility model the company must prepare a description, clearly stating the differences and strong sides of its technical decision, compared to those of the competitors. It is advisable also to be filled an application for trade mark protection before the Bulgarian Patent Office. The future company could also apply for extension of its IP protection throughout Europe, which could be extended into worldwide one at the next stage.  The approximate costs for the first stage IP protection for the European union are 7000 EUR.

 

6 What is you overall assessment of the scientific maturity of the research result?
The researcher managed to produce working prototypes of the unit, which after extensive testing have proved the research with results. The unit is compact and light-weighted, easy to work and understand, showing the distance to the disruption of the cable line in meters within only 4-5% error range. The device needs only one alkaline battery for more than 5000 h continuous work and operates reliably in -15 +40 Degrees Centigrade range.

This product does not require specific raw materials for production or complexed and expensive equipment for manufacturing, thus making it an interesting proposal for future investors/funding.
