Sheep breeding can provide new opportunities to farmers operating in the Region thanks to a quality wool production and the development of the textile industry of this raw material, thus allowing to improve their economic entries. To achieve this goal, this research starts from the results achieved by the regional cross-project titled “Vesti l’ambiente”(“Dressing the Enviroment”). This latter project allowed to increase the production of wool through the introduction of genetically selected lines of Merinizzata breed animals (crossbreeding Italian Merinos with European Merinos) with a naturally colored fleece (animal sample nucleus) that, integrated within the existing livestock through the participation of some forward-looking and interested farmers, allowed interventions of genetic improvement on selected animals in order to obtain subjects capable of increasing the intrinsic value of this primary production.
