The proposed research describes a working method for tying a self locking knot on a fish hook. A hand tool is developed as a prototype to help in the specific knot.


Description of the method :

Hold the hook in the prescribed manner in Figure 1. To put the hook end of the fiber without cutting from the roll. We recommend a length of fiber which forms a circle is 15-17 cm (Diagram). Attaches to the unit under the direction of Fig. 4 way, rotates along clockwise by turning at least 5 times for the development of five coils of fiber on the stem of the hook. Pressed to the end of the coil with your finger and disconnected from the unit. Clamp node in the sequence and make the occasion of correct length.
The end result is displayed in the figures,


1b. Please describe and discuss the testing results
The proposed method for fishing hook tying is useful and proven in practice. It has the following advantages:
1. Self locking unit which distributes the tightening effort throughout its length,
2. Suitable for all types of fibers, including steel leash (IV performance with support hose).
3. Minimum refraction of the fiber.
4. It can be done without dismantling the occasion of the line.


SECTION 2: Current Stage of Development



To what extent does the development team have technical resources for supporting the production of a new product? (Researchers, human resources, hardware, etc. )
The company researcher is a manufacturer of fishing gear. As such it has the potential for supporting small scale production – technologists and other human resources and hardware. The company has described and manufactured the hook tying tool for the knot also.


What are the technical issues that need to be tackled for full deployment, if needed?
The first stage in development of the product was achieved – the manufacturing of a working prototype. The hook tying tool confirmed its qualities and functionality. The company needs engineering and research support in order to develop a hooks tying machine, using the presented tying method and knot.



What additional technical resources are needed for the production of this new product?
The company has some manufacturing equipment, suitable for production of certain fishing tackle. This means the manufacturing of future hook tying machine can be outsourced to a small metal processing company, of course under direct supervision of the researcher.

As a small company the manufacturer of the product must invest in developing producing powers, necessary for manufacturing of small scale production, at the first stage.




Overall assessment of the current stage of technical development.
The researcher has described and offered a fishing hook tying method and a device – tool for easier implementation of the method in practice. A working prototype of the tool has been manufactured and tested. It shows the method is working and leading to improvement of some characteristics of the fishing knot – being self-locking it distributes the tightening effort evenly along its length and minimizes the retraction of the fiber.  The tying method is suitable for all types of fibers, including steel leash. It can be done without dismantling the occasion of the line.


SECTION 3: Deployment


Define the demands for large scale production in terms of
  • Materials
The materials, needed for manufacturing of the product (the tying tool) are conventional, well-known and widely available alloys and/or plastics. The reduced use of raw materials will make the product cost effective and relatively easy for implementation even is large scale production.


  • technologies, tools, machineries
For starting a small batch production the company will not need special equipment – one or two specialized tools could do. The parts of the tying tool could be outsources to specialized manufacturers and could be assembled at the researcher’s premises into a ready product.


  • Staff effort
The inventor has the full know how and abilities to provide close monitoring and control during the production process. Several workers will be needed for assembly and packing of the parts of the tying tool.




SECTION 4: Overall Assessment



What is you overall assessment of the technical feasibility of the research result?
The proposed method is working; the fishing hook knot shows good technical characteristics. The developed tying tool makes the task easier, allowing to spare time and efforts.
