Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it?

Vă rugăm să faceţi o scurtă prezentare a celor mai importante realizări în domeniu şi/sau tendinţele actuale? Cum se încadrează rezultatul CD în acest context?


Current status and trends of development in the biomechanics of the human body:
- Continual development of the human body biomechanics field that is based both on experimental tests and results, as well as on modeling and numerical simulations using virtual instrumentation;
- Strong trend of widespread use of numerical methods, as close as possible to real models, in terms of structure and behavior;
- Optimization of existing models in the biomechanics of the human body;


The obtained models attached to other bones will be study using finite elements method and will be prepared for kinematics and dynamic simulation.


The behaviour of the virtual knee can give the important informations which can be used in the fields of robotics, medicine sciences and medical robotics. Also, on the virtual knee joint can be attached virtual prosthetic elements for virtual post-surgery simulations.


Virtual conceptual model presented provides important information on static and dynamic of human knee.
New virtual elements can be attached to virtual knee. Determining actual values ​​for essential parameters corresponding to geometric configuration adopted was made ​​on 3D models developed in SolidWorks package.






What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to?  How was it addressed before?

The knowledge gap which the research result is addressing:
- Lack of models dedicated to human knee study;
- Lack of knowledge on how the human knee components work together to achieve a normal functionality;
- The entire process:
- Original programming;
- Attempt;
- Measurement;
- Data collecting and processing;
- Analysis, presentation of results)
to be made ​​in integrated with virtual instrumentation.



What is the potential for further research?

The main goal of research result is to develop study methods and steps to get virtual bones of human body.

The result of research is within the research directions (promotion) of knee biomechanics.





What is the proposed method of IPR-protection? (patent, license, trademark etc.)

Care este metoda propusă pentru protecţia drepturilor de proprietate intelectua (brevet, licenţă, marcă înregistrată etc.)


It was proposed the protection of intellectual property rights of the product About the 3D Model of Human Knee Components Using Tomographical Images” by means of technological licensing.




What are the steps that need to be taken in order to secure the IPR-protection? What is the cost of IPR-protection?

Care sunt etapele ce trebuie parcurse pentru a se asigura drepturile de proprietate intelectuală? Care este costul pentru asigurarea proprietăţii intelectuale?



The main steps that may be mentioned in the license contract refers to the following:
- The right to use unlimitedly the  license;
- The geographical area where the license is manifested;
- Time duration and causes that can cause withdrawal of the license;
- Set of services that the licensee  is going to give to the beneficiary company;
- Measures to protect the designs, technologies and other items subject to intellectual and industrial property.




What is you overall assessment of the scientific maturity of the research result?

Care este evaluarea generală a maturităţii ştiinţifice a rezultatului CD?


Develop a set of original knowledge addressing the virtual modeling of human knee.


For that purpose was used a CAD parametric software which permits to define models with a high level of difficulty. The obtained models attached to other bones will be study using finite elements method and will be prepared for kinematics and dynamic simulation


The research theme, it was a part of a large subject of study, which attracts the knowledge from different fields (anatomy, surgical techniques, orthopaedics, mechanics, bio-mechanisms, computer science, technical graphics, computer aided design). The subject of this paper permits the cooperation between many researchers which activate in different fields and which have the capacity to develop informational methods and technologies to solve difficult problems given by the complexity of the scientifically target.


The knee joint is an important joint from the human locomotion system and it is composed of bones, ligaments, tendons and cartilages. From such reason, scientifically studies are very difficult to realize because the knee is the most complex joint in the human body, almost they are made in a statically system.


To understand the problems, which appear in this joint, it is very important to know the anatomy of the knee and the way in which the components are working together to realize a normal functionality.


The difficult modeling of such an item and the need of a large volume of data are justifying its approach in theory, with practical examples.
