Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it?
The invention is concerned with the field of muscle growth and regeneration. It provides novel methods, substances and uses for facilitating the growth or regeneration of skeletal muscles. The methods, uses and substances of the invention are useful in the treatment or prevention of degenerative-regenerative muscular disorders (for instance Duchenne syndrome) and in the treatment of muscle injuries.

What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to?  How was it addressed before?
The researcher able to stimulate the muscle fibre own regeneration system by a simple transfection method. The invention is able to use in cases of degenerative-regenerative muscle disorders (like Duchenne syndrome) and other muscle atrophy cases or part of rehabilitation treatment after muscle injuries.

What is you overall assessment of the scientific maturity of the research result?
The invention is based on findings that transfection of muscle fibres with dominant negative Ras (dnRas) produces a wider effect than anticipated. It stimulates fibre growth in the entire regenerating soleus muscle, including the non-transfected fibres. The expression of dnRas in only a few fibres increased mass and fibre size in the whole regenerating soleus muscle.
