The present system using detection of noisy surveys, is able to rapidly and promptly signalize congestion in highway or roadway traffic, caused for example by car accidents or suddenly queues. The scope of the system is to detect in real-time these situations and without the need of any operator (e.g. operators watching monitors).
The system is based on acoustic sensors, which have to be placed on regular intervals along the dual carriageways, independently on the direction of travel. The same placements could be used to feed proper luminous sensors in order to use them for signalizing to drivers congestion or accidents.
An algorithm has been studied, which diagnoses (basing on noise intensity) the regularity of traffic flow, and eventually signalizes queues. This algorithm does not require the identification of vehicles.
