Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it? |
Analysis of environmental noise is an important field of environmental protection and acoustics. Real-time monitoring of environmental noise is an available technology and a practice in environmental acoustics, just as the modeling of noise prediction and mapping of noise immission in an area. The European Union has started a program named Environmental Noise Directive in 2002, to produce noise maps in all major cities and around major road, railway, airport and industrial noise sources. |

What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to? How was it addressed before? |
This research aims to combine the benefits of real-time noise monitoring and noise mapping in order to produce real-time noise maps, which is a new informative and illustrative way of environmental noise analysis. The solution of this problem necessitated the research of source-selective noise monitoring and the periodic refreshment of noise map using monitoring data. |
3 |
What is the potential for further research? |
Both technical problems open a very wide area of research and development, which will give much opportunity of further work, after the first systems are operating. The source-selective noise monitoring has to be applied for several situations that creates new challenges each time. The software development for procession and human interface will also require continuous development.
