Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it?

There are many software applications like CAD, created by different software companies. Such software is present in almost all cases anon-immersive applications, using interfaces such as mouse and keyboard interactions classic, adnoun-cooperative (according to the paradigm of collaboration within the project aimed PROGIMM).Although now well established and adopted in the production processes of large corporations, such software have the disadvantage of poor cooperation between the design sessions and long timelines for certain phases of the design, evaluation and validation of CAD. Therefore, product innovation proposed by PROGIMM, can save you time in planning, evaluation and validation of digital prototypes, could help businesses to overcome the above problem indenter the market with a reliable and durable .
The innovative idea promoted by PROGIMM Project is to introduce in the processes of the use of a CAD design immersive and COOPERATIVE, in which the man-machine interaction takes place in a more natural and immediate way, through the use of tracking devices, and advanced visualization of feedback force, overcoming all the limitations of display and interaction interfaces presented by classic hardware / software.

What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to?  How was it addressed before?

In light of new technological trends and market a greater propensity to accept new types of man-machine interface (as can be seen from the video game consoles that are present in millions of homes around the world), aims to PROGIMM provide a new method of digital design process, so far dominated by the traditional interface design of the CAD world.
The innovative idea promoted by PROGIMM Project is to introduce in the processes of the use of a CAD design immersive and COOPERATIVE, in which the man-machine interaction takes place in a more natural and immediate way, through the use of tracking devices, and advanced visualization of feedback force, overcoming all the limitations of display and interaction interfaces presented by classic hardware / software.
Since the first prototypes have emerged very positive feedback from users as regards the value added provided by the complete immersion in the virtual worldfrom collaboration than traditional interfaces provided by these software toolsdesign.

What is the potential for further research?

PROGIMM starts  from the design based on the product development cycle (in general), proposing the development of software and hardware products and technologies (aimed at DESIGN immersive) and a distributed platform, integrating the potential of Advanced Visualization Centres with resources GRID-type calculation. In this way the designers-users, even if geographically distributed, may be virtually projected within a single simulated world, in which the interaction with the scenario takes place in virtual mode multisensory (sight, touch, hearing), thus more direct and natural. A future development of this technology could allow a more realistic assessment in immersive mode, the digital project during the design phase related to the product development cycle, interacting with 3D objects represented in a more intuitive than traditional CAD design, so to offer a virtual product entirely corresponding to the real one.

What is the proposed method of IPR-protection? (Patent, license, trademark etc.)

The product PROGIMM is under patent through the Patent Office National. This is an international patent which states that may be given in European patent application are:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Spain, United Kingdom, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands Holland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey.
These states will consider all nominated 7 times by paying the designation fee. The patent may be extended to, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Latvia, Macedonia, Montenegro; Serbia was paying the required fee for each designation.

What are the steps that need to be taken in order to secure the IPR-protection? What is the cost of IPR-protection?

The procedure involves an initial phase that includes the filing of the application, the examination of formal requirements, the quest for novelty and the publication, after 18 months from the filing of the application and the research report. It follows the examination phase proper, which begins at the request of the inventor, who must also pay the fee for examination, without which the patent application is considered to be abandoned. By the time the patent examination can be accepted or rejected, and you can oppose the decision of preparing a special appeal.
The European patent may be an independent patent application or be incorporated as regional patent within international patent application; in this second case we speak of Euro-PCT.
The cost for the presentation of a European patent application varies depending on the number of states chosen and includes the filing fees and research, translation and expenses for the preparation of the application. Once the novelty seeking, paid the examination fee you get the acceptance or rejection of a patent. If the patent is granted, one has  to pass the validation state by state, making the translation into the language of every nation and paying the required fee. To register a patent in Italy and keep it alive, ranging from a minimum of 50 Euros (summary electronically) to 600 Euros for the summary paper of the idea over 50 pages. To protect every year over the fourth to be paid from 60 to 650 Euros up to the twentieth, after which the invention is free. What is you overall assessment of the scientific maturity of the research result?

This is a project completed in August  2011. The first software prototypes have been installed according to the configuration provided both within the centre of the consortium CETMA virtual reality, both in design studies of the project partners. Since these early prototypes have emerged very positive feedback from users as regards the value added provided  immersion from collaboration than traditional interfaces provided by these software tools design. The proper integration of Virtual Reality, Partially or Totally Immersive Systems, CAD Engine (incumbent), tracking devices and/ or Haptic device, if used in a single environment (which can also perform ergonomic evaluations and validations.) offering a new tool for designing compact, intuitive and highly collaborative/ cooperative to address the needs of the market focused on reducing time to market and design costs.
