REBOOK is based on a distributed scheme to store the references (memory addresses) to the flows information entries stored within the routers. Keeping track of the memory pointers makes constant the cost of keeping up to date the flows information without the need of searching for the correct entries in the flows information table.
REBOOK has been proved to be robust, as it is able to identify and recover from route changes, faults, and packet losses. REBOOK is a soft-state algorithm, it makes use of periodical keepalive messages (explicit or embedded in data packets) and delegates to a low priority process (whose cost has been proved to be negligible) the task of removing from the table the obsolete entries not regularly dropped due to faults and unexpected events in the network.
