IP protection


1 Please provide a short description of the state-of-the-art and/or current trends in the field? How does the result fit into it?
Note: Provide information about the current trends especially as regards to the scientific status of the presented R&D result
Silver, and its ion and colloid solutions in particular, have strong bactericide and antivirus properties, i.e. Hey destroy all desiease-causing bacteria and viruses, with the useful bacteria being non-affected by the silver. It strengthens the immune system, improves the blood composition, protects from salt precipitation on the walls of the blodd vesssels, protects from infections, activates the healing processes and the metabolism processes in the human body. When in an environment saturated with colloid silver ions, all bacterial, funghi, viruses and mold are destroyed within 5-6 minutes.

Magnetised water in combination with silver water has synergy effect, i.e. the magnetic field makes the effect of the silver water much stronger. This water has dihuretic action, it is easily absorbed by the human body and at the same time it has a cleaning effect on the human  organism. It gives energy, acts as painkiller from swellings, kills infections, regulates blood pressure, relaxes the nerve system, has alkalide effect on the human tissues by improving the oxygen supply to the cells. Magnito-therapy is used in prophylaxis and treatment  of post-operative interventions, thrombophlebitis, bronchitis, brnchial asthma, pneumonia, ischemic heart disease,   ulcer of the stomach or intestines, bone fractures, and others. Magnetised water has very healthy effect on the liver, gall, kidney, the digestive system, the metabolism, etc.

The function of the product and its impact is based on disinfection of water through electrolysis and saturation of the water with silver ions, which is not a new process and has been deployed for disinfection of water for many many centuries. The product in its essence is not based on any breakthroughs in R&D, innovation or technology developments.

The advantage of the product is that it is small, very compact, cheap, the result of its action is achieved in very short time (20 sec of water treatment and complete disinfection in 10 min), it is very convenient for individual useage, which is closely related to its market potential.

There are many similar divices, but they are made of plastic, which is cancerogenic and is dissolved in water. The electrolysis on the basis of which the water is saturated with silver ions is not new as a process. The novelty of the product is in its form – the silver pen. It is compact in shape and is cheap. It leads to improved taste of the food that has been prepared with water treated with the silver pen, it also gives the wine the taste of old wine. It can be used in big installations for wine production, or in spa centres.




2 What is the problem/need/knowledge gap that the research result is responding to?  How was it addressed before?
Note: Please concentrate on the specific result and the status before its development
According to the World Health Organsiation 80% of the diseases are result of environmental pollution, of polluted water in particular. The problems related to purification, disinfection, softening and other improvements of water quality are on the top agenda nawadays.

There are many cases in life where people are in the situation to drink water from natural water resources or from resources that have water of questionable drink quality. In these cases this product – the silver pen – is very convenient and right to the point for using: it is easy to carry and use, it is compact in size and shape, and secures guaranteed effect, claimed to be such by the Galvano company on the bases of the laboratory tests made thus far.




3 What is the potential for further research?

The product is fully developed and needs no further research, unless the results from a certified laboratory that are still to be made ahead, demand so.




4 What is the potential of the research result for synergy with other research areas either in the same or in a different discipline?

There is further potential for combining the electrolysis with ultrasound treatment of the water. At present it is only combined with magnit, which structures the water molecule in a way that makes it a very strong dissolver of  all salts.




5 What is the proposed method of IPR-protection? (patent, license, trademark etc.)
Note: Provide the option relevant to the status in the scientific area of the result and the national status in terms of national, EU or global protection.

For the time being, there is no need to protect the silver pen by patenting, as it brings no added value to the company. It can be protected as utility model, which is much easier to obtain and cheaper to maintain cmpared to a patent.




6 What are the steps that need to be taken in order to secure the IPR-protection? What is the cost of IPR-protection?
Note: Describe the process and costs in accordance to national rules or further costs if international IPR protection is considered.
At present there is no need to apply for a patent. If the company decides to apply for a Utility Model, it has to submit an application to the Bulgarian Patent Office. It takes a few months to make the respective studies and research by the Patent Office. If they conclude with positive outcome, the Paten Office will issue a certificate of Utility Model for the silver pen. The provisional costs for the entire procedure and other related costs would range between 2-3000 BGN for IPR protection on the territory of the country. At the moment international IPR protection is not foreseen, as the product is not even placed on the Bulgarian market yet. International IPR would incur costs that are not considered reasonable at the moment.




7 What is the expected impact of the research result? (industry, society, administration etc. and target groups of beneficiaries)
This product has the potential to be used in a wide spectrum of areas.

1. It is suitable for individual use – very wide target group. Suitable to for use by tourists or workers when in nature, in the open, to disinfect water of questionable drinking properties – lakes, dams, rivers, etc.

2.  It can be used by the army – at trainings in the open, in nature, at missions, etc. It can become inseperable part of the kit of items of highest necessity, or the medical kit.


In general, accounting for its wide area of application, the silver pen can actually be used by the whole society.



8 What is you overall assessment of the scientific maturity of the research result?

The process of electrolisys and disinfection with silver ions is completely mature in terms of scientific development. The tests made thus far show that the silver pen and the way in which it is made and operates, leads to 100% destruction of unwanted bacteria and virusis in the water treated with the silver pen. In scientific terms the R&D result has reached complete maturity. The novelty in the silver pen is in its construction, compact size and low costs.
