This paper presents a part of results concentring the simulation of the aerodynamics flow velocity field developing surround a petrocheminidty petroleum coke plant. The spatial distributions of velocity us rezults as impact between the air and the spatial structure of plant.

The punctual values of velocity are determinated through nimerical simulations using the FEM which have initial data determinated through experimental measurements. Afther this calculus the therotical rezults are comparated with the real corresponting errores. The Cosmos Flow 2007 software was used to make the analysis through nimerical simulation. The obtained results confirm the accuracy of method and assure the possibility to use this method with confidence in activity of design process of a petroleumm coke plant.

Research costs are estimated at Euro 2500. Costs related to testing, probing and homologation of functional model are estimated to be 1200 Euro.

University of Craiova, a higher education institution with a specific structure of education, has managerial experience in scientific research performance, both fundamental and applied research in all areas, and advice and expertise.The research & development team has the human resources for the study of field velocity speed developed around the spatial structure of a petroleum coke plant using the FEM.
The research result is the outcome of research and experimentation conducted by a team of experts who want to further optimize these results.
In this respect, the team of experts is available for technical advice, so that potential partners can begin assimilating these results.


What are the technical issues that need to be tackled for full deployment, if needed?Care sunt aspectele tehnice ce trebuie abordate pentru lansarea în fabricaţie, dacă sunt necesare?
Implementation of research results in designing of a petroleum coke plant involves the development of the following stages:
- Development of design concept and requirements;
- Prototype design;
- Prototyping and testing
- Experimentation
- Verification and validation of the model (building the model with a high degree of validity;
validation of model assumptions, comparing quantities of input / output model with the ones of the real system).


What additional technical resources are needed for the production of this new product?Ce resurse tehnice suplimentare sunt necesare pentru fabricarea acestui nou produs?
The spatial model of plant is made with aid of the SolidWorks 2007 software starting an  original execution drawings of the installation.


The dimensional sizes of plant are big 28 x 6 x 6 m3 and the geometry is complicated. The 3D isometric model of the petroleum coke plant view from the direction taper bottom to dome is given.

To this end, conditions are required, such as: high pressure, reliability. To fulfill these conditions further research is needed to be done by companies specialized in the field.

In Romania the production of petroleum coke in majority of cases is based on the method of tardy carbon-producing. This study developed in this paper is concentrated on investigation of the velocity field developed around a petro-chemistry petroleum coke plant which working a 1996 on the Onesti oil distillery platform.


The real installation is set constituted with four identical section (fig, 1) and which alternatively work in cycles by 48 hours in according with the algorithm of the technological process.


The solicitation of wind represents an important loading which must obligatory to take into consideration in design activity of plant.

For this reason is demanding to make a detailed investigation of velocity field which is straight lied with other sizes as pressure, viscosity and density as it show in the Navier-Stokes equation used to describe the dynamical flow of the real fluids.

Procurement of materials and components for prototyping can be made of current products supplied by specialized companies.

On the exterior surfaces of the reinforcing ringa 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, noted in concordance with execution drawing, are mouted a number of 15 sensor elemtes in points P1 to P15 placed included in Plane 1 and Plane 2 wich scope to measure the punctual values of the velocity field which are connected the Multilyzer analyzer.

Human resource requirements estimated for assimilating the new model of equipment will be:
- Staff to survey the market,
- Staff for investment,
- Staff for operator’s training    and
- Staff for activities of advertising, publicity and expertise.

What is you overall assessment of the technical feasibility of the research result?Care este evaluarea generală a fezabilităţii tehnice pentru rezultatul CD?
Analyzing the distribution fields of velocity as a result of the experimental measurements and theoretical calculus we can conclude that the distributions velocity is no uniform on whole surface of petroleum coke plant.The complex geometry of the external surface disturbing in totality without exceptions the distribution field of velocity over/under lateral of 3D metal structure of plant and trajectories of the fluid elements are complex curves in space.

The calculus of error concerning the results obtained through numerical simulations made with aid of FEM is acceptable under 4 % as results of hypothesis initial accepted that the flow of the atmospheric front have physical sizes homogeneous and the impact angle alpha is constant end equal with value alpha = 900.

The results confirm the possibility of method to assure the precision necessary to use this method with confidence in activity of design a petroleum coke plant.

Technically, the project can be considered as one with minimum risk.
